On September 13 and 14, Mark I. Harrison, CPA, ABV, CFF, Esq. will be speaking at the BVR/Morningstar 3rd Annual Summit on Business Valuation in Divorce in Chicago, IL.


In May, Heather M. Young earned her Master of Science degree in Taxation from the University of New Haven, and Liz I. Tylawsky, JD earned her Master of Science degree in Accounting and Taxation from the University of Hartford.

On April 30, Kenneth J. Pia, Jr., CPA, ABV, ASA, CBA spoke at XPX Connecticut's breakfast meeting on "Sale of Stock in a Closely-Held Business to an "ESOP" (Employee Stock Ownership Plan): An Exit and Diversification Strategy for Business Owners" at The Hartford Club in Hartford, CT.


Kenneth J. Pia, Jr., CPA, ABV, ASA, CBA was a guest on the Savvy Divorced Chicks Radio Show, hosted by Colleen Bushby, on March 15. The topic of the show was "Are You Protecting Yourself Financially?" Ken discussed important financial, tax, and accounting issues that divorced women should know. In March, Kenneth J. Pia, Jr., CPA, ABV, ASA, CBA, Maureen S. Cosgrove, ASA, and Min K. Kim, CFA, MBA made a presentation on the topic of Employee Stock Ownership Plans to a dozen lawyers at a prominent Hartford law firm.

On February 3, 2010, Kenneth J. Pia, Jr., CPA, ABV, ASA, CBA was a speaker in a webcast sponsored by the New York State Bar Association on “The Sale of Stock in a Closely Held Business to an ESOP.” Topics included the overall structure of a leveraged ESOP transaction, including the objectives in establishing an ESOP, the tax benefits available in an ESOP transaction, the financing aspects of an ESOP transaction, the special ESOP valuation requirements, and proper ESOP financial accounting treatment.
